These aspects of my life compliment each other well. The principles of each discipline can be translated to the other. And so the name KICKED & THROWN.
Kicking Clay
The name of my pottery studio is first and foremost derived from pottery jargon. I work on a traditional KICK wheel, which I made from plywood, bricks and steel. Throwing is the term used for making pots on a wheel since the balls of clay are actually thrown onto the wheel. So I literally kick and throw as I make clay pots.
I also have a third degree black belt ranking in the traditional Korean martial art known as Kuk Sool Won. This gives the idea of kicking and throwing a depth of meaning for me.
These aspects of my life compliment each other well. The principles of each discipline can be translated to the other. And so the name KICKED & THROWN.
